Spiritual Growth
Dear Cheryl,Father Moses and my family have a weird yet interesting connection. I'm not active in the church society so me actually keeping in touch with one father (Okay, the only one whose name I know) is some big thing for me.
Greetings from Kuching!
Thanks for your email and I have been thinking and wondering how you have been lately. Please send my regards to your parents and brothers too.
I am sorry to hear that you did not do well in your exams, and you did not get into the Junior College. Yes, I am hearing you are feeling disappointed with yourself and you feel that you have let your mom down too.
I am pleased to hear that you are moving on, even though life has been tough and difficult for you.
Well, Cheryl I would like to tell you about myself when I was in NYJC, I did not do well in my 'A' levels, and I decided to repeat a year to re-sit for the 'A' levels exams. Later, I used the 'A' levels result and applied for a 2-year Diploma in Business Studies at Ngee Ann Polytechinc.
Well, I spent 3 years in a JC and it was the same year as in the Pre-U Centre.
I am not saying anything to remove your sadness, but rather to tell you that it was very tough for me to repeat in the JC in order to re-sit the 'A' levels.
Well, after I graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in May 1989, I started to work and after working for 4 years, I left the secular world and joined the Franciscan Order.
Today as I look back my life when I was in JC and in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, I realise that it was God who used these extra years to prepare me in the working world and also for religious life too.
Cheryl, I am hearing that you are blaming yourself for not hardworking.
I am fully aware that many times you could not settle down to study because your heart was feeling heavy and you have been struggling with pain and you seldom speak to others about your pain.
Cheryl, I know you often hide your tears and pain deep in your heart...
Yes, I am hearing you miss the old small church very much, and I miss the old chuch too. One of the reasons that I wanted to leave Singapore, it was because the life in Singapore is too comfortable for me and Kuching is a place where I can grow spiritually.
The life here is tough, and very often after my toilet trip, I have no running water to wash my hands and I have to use my own drinking water to wash my hands.
Some rural chapels here have no supply of electricity and running tap-water but I feel very happy to serve the people here because I experience the presence of God in the lives of these simple and poor people.
The God that I love and serve is a God of the poor and this humble God always incarnates himself in the simple bread and wine during the Mass. Like St Francis of Assisi, I did not find God in the lifestyle of the rich, but rather I experience the presence of God in some poor and lowly places, especially in the lives of the poor people.
One day perhaps you may want to come to Kuching and follow me to some of the rural chapels where the kampong have no supply of the electricity and no clean running tap-water, and perhaps you may want to experience the presence of God in a totally different culture and society.
On the other hand, I am hearing you saying that the priests in St Mary of the Angels always ask for money from the parishioners...
Well, Cheryl it is getting late now and I would like to end my email here.
Take care Cheryl and I will always support you!
Fr Moses
P/S: You are always a child of God and you are always under my care.
Thing about this email... It actually like inspires me to get closer to All Mighty again. Why. How.
I don't know.

No Such As 'Romantically Poor'
Rich men are the most romantic.
They can afford to buy you a whole room of roses. Buy you a range of designer lingerie.
Have a whole restaurant catered to you. Bring you on a private cruise.
Have poor people write pre-written daily messages to you about how beautiful and kind you are ya-di-ya-di-ya-da.
Have you drunk on expensive wine. Bring you to dinner beside a lake or reservoir and still have waiters and photographers around you.
Pay for your bust enhancement surgery.
Fly you to the moon.
Notice how the words "Range; Private; Catered; BUY; Expensive." are used.
Not those poor ones who can't afford anything and won't admit but say they are the present with a coupon that says:
"You are entitled to ask (who ever this loser is) to do whatever you want. Anything you want for a day."
They actually hope you'll ask them to treat you like a little innocent school girl and "rape" you as foreplay. If ever such a situation comes force him to break up with you. You can ask him to do whatever anyways!
